Air Quality Action Day extended by IDEM through Monday, July 17
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has extended an Air Quality Action Day through Monday, July 17, due to smoke and particulate matter from Canadian wildfires.
High levels of fine particles are expected to be present in air in Allen County and across the state. The Air Quality Action Day designation initially was made for Sunday, July 16. The agency later announced the extension.
IDEM forecasts are based on data from air quality monitors throughout the state. Air quality information for all counties in Indiana can be found at SmogWatch.IN.gov.
Actions including carpooling or using public transportation, combining errands into one trip, avoiding using gas-powered equipment and using propane instead of charcoal when grilling can help reduce fine particles.
Questions about air quality or Air Quality Action Day designations should be directed to IDEM.
