Free, fast, confidential testing offered for National HIV Testing Day
For immediate release
Fort Wayne (June 22, 2026) – Free, confidential screening for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 26.
The Allen County Department of Health will offer testing for HIV and hepatitis C at Walgreens, 110 E. Creighton Ave. (Corner of East Creighton and South Calhoun Street) for National HIV Testing Day. Rapid syphilis testing also will be available to those at risk.
No appointment is necessary.
“Tests are quick and easy,” said Disease Intervention Specialist Rochelle Feldheiser. “People might be living with a sexually transmitted infection and not know it. STIs can be present, even without symptoms, but they’re treatable. Testing is a first step toward knowing your status and living a healthy life.”
HIV tests require a finger-stick and a drop of blood. Results are available in about a minute. Results from tests for hepatitis C are available in approximately 20 minutes. Syphilis testing results are available in about 10 minutes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends routine testing, though many people do not get tested. In the U.S., more than 1 million people have HIV, but many don’t know their status.
The Health Department reported 16 cases of HIV in 2025.
The National HIV Testing Day partnership is an ongoing effort among Walgreens, Greater than AIDS, local health departments and HIV/AIDS service organizations to broaden the reach of HIV testing and information in nontraditional settings. The effort also is aimed at helping people understand the latest in prevention, treatment and care.
Other options for testing include:
- - Allen County Department of Health Medical Annex (by appointment) –
4813 New Haven Ave. – (260) 449-7504.
