IDEM declares Air Quality Action Day for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, due to smoke from wildfires
Air quality in Allen County could be affected by smoke from Canadian wildfires, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) announced.
IDEM declared Air Quality Action Days for Thursday, June 5, Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 for three regions across the state. That includes the northeast region, which includes Fort Wayne and other cities in the area.
Particulate matter in the air from the wildfires could reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups level, according to IDEM. Those groups include people with lung disease, older adults, children who are more vulnerable to ozone, and those with heart disease and lung disease.
A state map including affected regions and counties is available at SmogWatch.IN.gov.
DEM forecasts are based on air quality monitors located throughout the state. Questions about air quality or the Air Quality Action Days should be directed to IDEM.
