Shelters opened for those impacted by storm

The Coliseum shelter will close at noon Friday, June 17. The elementary school shelter in Columbia City is closed, the Red Cross announced.

The American Red Cross has opened shelters in Fort Wayne and Columbia City for residents affected by Monday night storms that caused power outages and other problems.

The Fort Wayne shelter is open at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave. Coesse Elementary School is open as a shelter at 2250 S. 500 E. in Columbia City.

Signage will be posted outside each building to let those seeking assistance know where to enter. Residents should bring any required medication and medical equipment.

Red Cross staff will work with residents to assess needs and other possible services for recovery.

The shelters are expected to be open at least through Thursday.
